Jim Larkin And Michael Lacey Advocate For The Protection Of Human Rights

UPDATE 2-23-18

Building A Fund When It’s All Done

Some journalists work just to feel good about their writing. Others write to get their message across. A true message only takes into account good writing when that message must be spoken clearly. It doesn’t matter when journalists have a great voice or prose. What matters is if information is conveyed in its most effective manner.

Effectiveness is the model taken by Mike Lacey and Jim Larkin. These professionals were found in the most unwanted situations of their lives. The two men were brought to their own personal obstacles when least expected. The events arose when Sheriff Joe Arpaio arrested Jim and Mike during a late night altercation with law enforcement.

Harassment And Ongoing Lawsuits

The story picked up after these men were required to appear in court. The country’s ruling revealed that Joe Arpaio underwent an illegal arrest of the two American journalists. The final verdict awarded Mr. Lacey and Mr. Larkin roughly $3.2 million in damages. The ongoing harassments won’t exactly end for these professional writers however.

There was a deeper understanding of American conflict as Mike and Jim found it difficult to adjust to their new-found exposure. It was clear that the citizens of Arizona successfully revealed the corruption of their own law enforcement. Mike Lacey and Jim Larkin continued to feel a sense of opposition as American citizens.

Where American Society Has Come

Enduring civil harassment led the writers of Phoenix Times to come to their own terms. These terms were the beginning of what’s now called the Frontera Fund. The nature of harassment that Mike and Jim experienced brought about a larger awareness of the abuse that immigrants are also exposed to.

The public and private history of violent treatment toward immigrants in our nation was exposed more broadly. The Frontera Fund works to make civil exposures real and by defending against propaganda aimed at a minority population. The future of Arizona and American law is being closely watched and as reformation is surely underway.

Speaking On The Trump Administration

Jim and Mike have recently spoken out against the United States President after he pardoned former Sheriff Arpaio. The events unfolded and brought a new situation to the minds of Americans. The freedom fight that was fought by Jim and Mike seems to have been in vain. The one chance they had to putting Arpaio away was reserved by the president himself.

Fair and equal representation is a right for everyone in the society. However, Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey were denied these necessary rights once they decided to stand for the truth and go against what is wrong in the society. Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey were journalists, and they were discharging their duties to the general society as normal when they realized that their highly decorated sheriff was a corrupt individual.

Upon conducting investigations on the matter, they were able to come up with proof of his fraudulent undertakings, and as a result, they published their findings. Their considerable efforts were trashed when Arpaio locked them up for trying to investigate him.

Since they were journalists, their colleagues were angered by the happenings that led to their arrest, and this created a revolution to help pull them out of the unfortunate situation.

The law requires that individuals are not locked up for more than 24 hours before being presented to a court. However, Larkin and Lacey were locked away without being charged under Arpaio’s orders. After much pressure from the community, they were eventually released from custody.

They filed a case against Arpaio for the damages that he had caused them. The first amendment rights of the individuals had been violated, and as a result, they were awarded over $3.75 million as a settlement.

Most people would have taken the money and used it for their gain without even considering other people in the society. However, Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey decided to use the funds to bring everyone in the community together. By re-investing the money into the society, then they would be able to make a greater impact. Read more: Jim Larkin | Crunchbase and Michael Lacey | LinkedIn

Many people’s rights are violated on a daily basis without any consideration that it may be wrong. In very many cases, the authorities end up ignoring what the minority and less powerful individuals in the society need.

Larkin and Lacey are seen as the champions of the weak people as they help to educate immigrants on their rights. The Hispanic community in the USA was agitated by the occurrences that led to the arrest of Larkin and Lacey, and it helped to rally for the release of the two journalists. As much as a country may appear to be progressive and hold great promise for people who are trying to work up the ladder of success, other people tend to have some form of backward and destructive thinking.

Joe Arpaio suppressed the rights of many people, but his day of reckoning brought great change to the general American society. As advocates of the weaker individuals in the community, Larkin and Lacey continue to ensure that the rights of all people are respected.

Apart from the Larkin and Lacey Frontera Fund, Other organizations that help to promote respect for human rights include the American Civil Liberty Union that ensures people in power don’t violate the rights of the disabled individuals and prisoners. Also, there is the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

Securus Technologies Grows For Its Customers

Wireless containment systems have recently been introduced in Florida correctional facilities. These devices prevent illegal calls and messages being sent from contraband cellular devices. These devices are brought into the institutions by visitors and have even been dropped into jail yards by drones. Securus Technologies is to thank for the WCS devices, which result in increased safety.

Robert Johnson, a retired corrections officer, is a champion for the systems. He was shot six times in retaliation for doing his job. Confiscating a package valued at $50,000, a former inmate broke into his home to place the hit. His chances of survival were slim, but he pulled through and has been working towards getting legislation passed to require the systems in facilities. An infant was killed in a similar manner, illustrating just how serious the problem really is. Although still being tested, the devices have thus far proven to be effective. Estimates of over a billion calls intercepted are promising.

Other services that are often praised include affordable calling services, video visitation and monitoring. The monitoring services have been able to provide evidence and resolve numerous matters. The monitoring also helps to keep employees honest. This yields a safer and more pleasant environment for everyone.

Acquiring JPay to assist with the implementation of the WCS, Securus takes innovation to the next level. JPay has also developed tablets for sale to inmates. The tablets provide educational software. Being given this opportunity, the inmates are able to prepare for reentry into the working world. GovPayNet is also another company that’s been acquired. Both these subsidiaries specialize in financial services. GovPayNet is responsible for processing payments for governmental agencies. Among these payments included are, cash bail payment processing, court costs, and traffic citations.

Customer service is also a top priority. The company has been able to resolve nearly all concerns on one call and pleases over 95 percent of its customers. The Better Business Bureau awarded the company with an “A+” rating and added to its approval with accreditation. With all the recent developments, Securus makes customers its priority. Connecting inmates with their families and making the jobs of facility support staff easier; the company continues to provide services that are invaluable to everyone involved.
